Terminologies

Cloud Computing:    

A model for enabling on-demand access, via the internet, to cloud-enabled clinical data sources which can be configured with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. 

Software as a Service (SaaS):

A subscription-based, over the internet, software delivery model where access to information is automated and accessed as part of the cloud-enabled service.

Web Service (WS):

A method of communication between two software applications over the web (internet).

Service-oriented architecture (SOA):

SOA is a flexible set of design principles used during the phases of systems development and integration in computing. A system based on a SOA will package functionality as a suite of interoperable services that can be used within multiple separate systems from several business domains.

In-house eClinical technologies:

Refers to applications behind the customer’s firewall.

Firewall:

A security appliance used to block network access from the outside network (internet, wide area network WAN) to and from the company’s local area network (LAN).

Holistic Study View:

Dataflow Manager visualizes not only the data you have, but also the data you don’t yet have but are expecting by a specific date. This complete picture of trial progress, both actual and expected, gives users what we call a holistic view of their study.
